Taxon Summary:

Townsendia leptotes, commonly known as slender townsendia, is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae that is found in California and elsewhere. It occurs within Alpine boulder and rock field, growing at elevations from 3275 to 3810 meters. Townsendia leptotes is ranked 2B.3, Plants Rare, Threatened, or Endangered in California, But More Common Elsewhere; Not very threatened in California.

Notes:
Known in CA from the White and Inyo mountains. Possibly threatened by recreation. Rare in NV. See Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences 16:85 (1880) for original description, Muhlenbergia 4:69 (1908) for revised nomenclature, and Great Basin Naturalist 30(1):38-39 (1970) for taxonomic treatment.
