Confused with C. heterophyllus var. pseudosimulans (unpublished), which is more coastal. Some populations threatened by proposed reservoir construction, but many populations occur on public lands (Anza Borrego SP, BLM, and USFS). Also threatened by urbanization, invasive species, grazing, and road construction.
