Known only from southern Sierra Nevada. Several occurrences at lower elevations are possibly extirpated. Many occurrences historical; needs field surveys. Possibly threatened by development, grazing, vehicles, road construction and maintenance, recreational activities, and non-native plants. Previously identified as E. palmeri.
