Notes:
Walnut forest is a much fragmented, rare, and declining vegetation community. Threatened by urbanization, grazing, non-native plants, and possibly by lack of natural reproduction. Possibly threatened by hybridization with horticultural varieties of walnut. A synonym of J. californica var. californica in The Jepson Manual.
