It occurs within Broadleafed upland forest, Chaparral, Cismontane woodland, Coastal scrub, Lower montane coniferous forest, Meadows and seeps, and Subalpine coniferous forest, growing at elevations from 0 to 1960 meters. Mielichhoferia elongata is ranked 4.3, Plants of Limited Distribution, A Watch List; Not very threatened in California.
