Notes: Much reduced by coastal development. Intergrades with var. gracilis at some localities. Threatened by foot traffic, trampling, and non-native plants. See Madroño 27(2):101-109 (1980) and Phytologia 66(4):390-91 (1989) for taxonomic treatments.
