As of the 2012 Jepson Manual, E. traskiae ssp. traskiae is considered endemic to Santa Catalina Island, while ssp. smithii is the more common taxon found on the mainland. Nominated in 2011 and CBR in 2022 with the reason: “After removal of feral goats and pigs, this plant is no longer considered in danger of extinction on Santa Catalina Island.”
