Xylorhiza panamintensis, commonly known as Panamint desert-aster, is a perennial evergreen shrub in the Asteraceae that is found only in California. It occurs within Mojavean desert scrub, growing at elevations from 715 to 1300 meters. Distinguished from X. tortifolia by the following characters: extensively branched (vs. unbranched) stems, heads sessile or nearly sessile (vs. long pedunculate) and in corymbiform groups (vs. solitary), outer phyllaries herbaceous (vs. scarious in proximal ¼ to ¾), smaller ray laminae (6–11.5 × 1–1.75 mm vs. 10–33 × 1.8–5.5 mm), and fewer pappus bristles 15–25 (vs. 35–90).
