It occurs within Chaparral (maritime), Coastal bluff scrub, Coastal dunes, and Coastal scrub, growing at elevations from 0 to 150 meters. Erysimum suffrutescens is ranked 4.2, Plants of Limited Distribution, A Watch List; Moderately threatened in California.

Notes:
Threatened by coastal development, vehicles, and non-native plants. Includes E. suffrutescens var. grandifolium. Hybridizes locally with E. capitatum.
