Taxon Summary:

Glossopetalon pungens, commonly known as pungent glossopetalon, is a perennial deciduous shrub in the Crossosomataceae that is found in California and elsewhere. It occurs within Chaparral, and Pinyon and juniper woodland, growing at elevations from 1675 to 2000 meters. Glossopetalon pungens is ranked 1B.2, Plants Rare, Threatened or Endangered in California and Elsewhere; Moderately threatened in California.

Notes:
Known in CA from only one occurrence in Forsellesia Cyn. in the Clark Mtns. On watch list in NV. See Aliso 9:171-178 (1978) for discussion of transfer to Crossosomataceae. USFWS uses the name G. pungens var. glabra. See American Midland Naturalist 27(2):503-504 (1942) for original description.
