Federally listed as Endangered on 1977-09-12, Delisted due to Recovery on 2023-02-24.Feral herbivores removed from SCM Isl., and vegetation recovering. Dubiously distinct from D. variegatum in Phytologia 68(1):1-3 (1990); may be difficult to distinguish from ssp. thornei. USFWS uses the name D. kinkiense ssp. kinkiense. See Aliso 7:69 (1969) for original description, and MadroƱo 47(2):116-126 (2000) for discussion of separation from ssp. thornei.
