Species Description:
Dirca occidentalis, commonly known as western leatherwood, is a perennial deciduous shrub in the Thymelaeaceae that is found only in California. It occurs within Broadleafed upland forest, Chaparral, Cismontane woodland, Closed-cone coniferous forest, North Coast coniferous forest, Riparian forest, and Riparian woodland, growing at elevations from 25 to 425 meters. Dirca occidentalis is ranked 1B.2, Plants Rare, Threatened or Endangered in California and Elsewhere; Moderately threatened in California.
