Carpenteria californica, commonly known as tree-anemone, is a perennial evergreen shrub in the Hydrangeaceae that is found only in California. It occurs within Chaparral, and Cismontane woodland, growing at elevations from 340 to 1340 meters. Carpenteria californica is ranked 1B.2, Plants Rare, Threatened or Endangered in California and Elsewhere; Moderately threatened in California.

Notes: Known from fewer than 20 occurrences. There are historical reports of introduced plants in MAD Co. Threatened by development, road construction, logging, vehicles, and overgrazing.
